School Committee Seeks Community Member for Interview Committee

October  16, 2016 —The Duxbury School Committee is forming a nine member committee to assist with part of the superintendent search process.  The new superintendent will start on July 1, 2017, following the retirement of Dr. Benedict Tantillo at the end of the current school year.  Executive search firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates will submit a slate of five candidates to an interview committee. The role of the nine member committee will be to interview the five candidates and choose three finalists to move on for review by the School Committee.  The School Committee will then interview the finalists and choose their preferred candidate in December.

The interview committee will include a teacher, a support staff member, a principal, a central office administrator, a parent, a student, a community member-at-large and two School Committee members.  The committee is scheduled to meet on November 22, 29 and 30 to prepare for the interviews, review the slate of candidates and conduct interviews.


The School Committee invites residents who are interested in serving as the community member-at-large to send a brief statement of interest and introduction to School Committee secretary Ginny Whoriskey at gwhoriskey@duxbury.k12.ma.us by November 1, 2016.  Two School Committee members will choose the community member-at-large to serve on the interview committee.

Over the last two weeks, HYA has been gathering input from the school community and residents through focus groups, interviews, a community forum and an online survey.  HYA will use that input to develop a leadership profile and present the profile to the School Committee at its October 19 meeting.  The leadership profile will be part of national advertising for the superintendent position.
